It was customary for the wealthy classes to serve their game upon special platters and plates when feasting with honored guests. However, today such sets are collected more for their beauty and display rather than for functionality. Such a set would make a fantastic display in ones dining room! On the other hand it would be an ideal decorative item for an elk lodge either displayed over a fireplace or in its dining quarters.

The Sepia Print with accents of sponge gold pronounce this absolutely Vivid Wild Life Scene on the platter and plates. This Stunning Game Set was made in Europe and is of German rather than French origin. It was manufactured approximately 1870-1880. It s Transfer Print on a Porcelain Medium. The platter measures 18” Length by 13” Width by 2 1/4” Depth. The mold work for this platter is exquisite; the porcelain is very heavy and durable as is seen in the photo illustration. The plates have four different elk scenes. There are 8 accompanying plates of which each 2 plates have the same animal view. The plates measure 8 1/2” Diameter. The platter has very ornate shell scroll corners with gracefully curved edges. The central theme is that of an elk followed by numerous elk in the background against a body of water, pink sky and woodland area.

This is truly an Amazing Art Nouveau German Porcelain Game or Gaming Set that would make a prized possession for any archery elk hunter and his proud family.

The largest breed of elk resides in northwestern Montana and the Idaho panhandle of United States. Near Yellowstone National Park and Idaho Falls is one favorite area for elk hunting in the USA.  In Canada, near Banff in Alberta, is a Canadian favorite elk sporting area.

A tremendous score for an elk hunter would be a monster bull elk that scores over 500 and are indeed rare. In parts of the United States, hunters will pay as much as $8,000 for a license to hunt a trophy elk. Here you can have your prized elk for a lot less than a license and still preserve wild life as you enjoy your trophy mounted over your fireplace.
