JACQUES & HAY ANTIQUE CANADIANA WALNUT VANITY DRESSER
This genuine Jacques & Hay Canadiana Eastlake style antique walnut dresser was manufactured during the late Victorian era in Toronto and dates approximately circa 1880-1885. It also can be referred to as a Lady's Vanity, Dresser or Chest.
This wonderful Canadiana Eastlake style walnut dresser with swivel side mirror is a genuine antique. It was manufactured during the later part of the Victorian Era and dates approximately 1880-1885. As for Eastlake style furniture, this is a very fine example of the illustrious furniture makers of Toronto namely Jacques & Hay who incorporated the Eastlake designs into many of their pieces. The carving at top of the mirror frame is known as gingerbread design. It is accompanied with an applied floral scroll design atop of the mirror. The dresser has a hat compartment to the right-hand side with two small drawers underneath. As we descend, we are greeted with two full length drawers. Left and right on mirror frame and bottom section of dresser has nice clean lines which is referred to as reeding.

CONDITION: This authentic period Jacques & Hay antique Canadiana walnut dresser is in great condition except for a 9" crack in the beveled mirror situated at bottom right hand corner. All brass hardware is original to this piece of furniture. In terms of the brass pulls, there is normal denting which is to be expected for antique pieces of thin brass hardware. Overall dresser has normal patina. Therefore this unique piece of Jacques & Hay furniture is priced accordingly. The color variation is due to sunlight at time of the photo shooting.
COMMENT: This charming piece of quality Canadiana Victorian Eastlake style furniture can have a multitude of uses. It may be used in either a bathroom, bedroom or foyer. A Great Accent Piece! Originally this distinctive piece of furniture was intended to pamper the lady of the house. If used as a vanity (make-up table). You too can feel like Scarlet O'Hara!

Jacques and Hay were renowned Canadian furniture makers of Toronto, Ontario from 1835-1885. Many of Jacques & Hay furniture pieces are avidly collected by Canadian collectors and various Ontario museums. Many of their pieces are not signed.
