The color of this set of six ruby red glass 9 oz. tumblers is known as “Carmen” and is attributed to the Cambridge Glass Co., Ohio as illustrated in the book “Colors in Cambridge Glass”  by the National Cambridge Collectors, Inc., Published by Schroeder Publishing Co.,Inc., Copyright: National Cambridge Collectors, Inc. 1984 . They were made during the Depression Era and are technically high end “Depression Glass”. They do not carry the logo for the Cambridge Glass Company because the Logo of C inside a triangle was only used after 1932 by Cambridge. The pattern of these glass tumblers is known as “Georgian # 319” and this color was introduced in 1931.

COMMENT: These Lovely Art Deco Cambridge Ruby Red (Carmen) Tumblers With Their Geometric Shape & Design Is Ideal For The Ruby Glass Collector!

This company produced great colored glass and is held in high esteem today by many collectors and commands very high prices for the better and rarer pieces.

HISTORY OF CAMBRIDGE GLASS COMPANY

The Cambridge Glass Company was founded in Cambridge, Ohio in 1901 and first produced glass in 1902. In 1903-1904, the first trademark used was “Near Cut”. However McKee Glass Company used the same trademark around the same date. Later in 1932, the trademark used was a C in a triangle. Mostly clear glass was produced until 1930. The colored glass came into being after 1930 and continued up to 1950.

This company changed ownerships numerous times and had many turbulent moments throughout its existence and finally in 1958, it sold out all its molds to Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio. So any glass you see today that looks like Cambridge is produced by Imperial and carries the logo IG overlapped and is definitely produced after 1953 when Imperial Glass first used this logo to distinguish from their older pieces of the 1910-1920’s periods.

This set of 6 tumblers are of a ruby red color with “amberina” bottoms; we have 2 others tumblers in a darker ruby red.

These are not new Moser Glass reproductions; these are authentic and are attributed as well as illustrated in the book “Colors in Cambridge Glass”.

CONDITION: Excellent! There are no cracks or chips.
