This Brilliant Cut Glass (Water) Carafe was cut during The “American Brilliant” Period of Glass Cutting. It is unsigned and consequently may be categorized either as American or Canadian. At this time period, as we know, many pieces were not signed as they left their parent factories. This Water Carafe measures 7 1/2" High and has a center Diameter of 6 1/2". It has great clarity of blank and fabulous deep miter geometric cutting which exhibits a large hobstar on one side and a large buzz saw on the opposite side with fans, cross hatching and gothic arches. The neck has a zipper cut pattern.
COMMENT: These Brilliant Period Cut Glass Water Carafes were never sold as Vases or Wine Carafes. Unfortunately many dealers sell them off as such. Originally these Carafes were accompanied by a water glass that would have been cut in the same pattern. The water glass was to be always inverted (upside down) sitting on top of the carafe. The two piece ensemble was to be placed beside the bed at night so if one awakened and was thirsty through the night, water was then quickly accessible. This was customary in the Victorian and Edwardian times. Many times the original tumbler is missing. It’s always a pleasure to see both matching pieces together!
