This Lovely Victorian Art Nouveau Gravy Boat was manufactured by John Maddock & Sons of Staffordshire, England and dates approximately 1896. The shape is Art Nouveau. The gracious shape displays a yellow and green floral sprig that is topped off by a beautifully embossed or gadroon edge at the top and bottom that is lavishly gold gilded on the handle, top edge and bottom. It is transfer printed on an earthenware medium that is referred to as semi porcelain.
COMMENT: For those of you who enjoy the elegance of Victorian chinaware with its graceful shapes, this is The Gravy Boat for you! Such pieces have a warmth and charm that can elegantly grace any dining table on any occasion.
CONDITION: Excellent! There is no wear to the transfer print, no chipping, no cracks and above all, no staining…which is the case with many gravy boats of this vintage.
