This Lovely Vintage Motto Ware Terra Cotta Coffee Pot was manufactured by the Longpark Pottery Co. (LTD.), Longpark, Torquay, Devon, England. This factory operated from circa 1905-1940. This pot stands 6 1/4” High. The base diameter is 3 1/2". Spout to handle measures 6".
The category of this type of decoration is known as “Motto Ware”. When holding the coffee pot to the left, there is a naively hand painted Scottish thistle; and when holding to the right, there is the inscription: “From Burns Monument for Auld Lang Syne”. The pot has a cream ground color on a terra cotta body with dark green banding at top and bottom as well as dark green thistle leaves.

HISTORY OF TORQUAY MOTTOWARE POTTERY
During the period 1869-1970, some 20 potteries created hand crafted pottery in the Torquay area of South Devon, England. Collectively these firms produced a wide range of souvenir wares, fine art pottery, and architectural decorative terra cotta.
There are six basic types of Torquay Pottery: (1) Cottageware, (2) Mottoware, (3) Faience, (4) Barbotine, (5) Terra Cotta and (6) Grotesques.
The clay is of superior quality and is comparable to the terra cotta clays used by the Greeks and Romans.
Torquay Pottery is now one of the fastest growing areas of collecting.
CONDITION: This coffee pot is in great condition except for a minor roughness on the edge of interior lid. There is no major chipping on the lid. Therefore we are offering this coffee pot to you in "as is" condition.
