PRICE: $375.00

This Gaudy Lusterware Teapot was made by the well known factory of George Wade & Sons Ltd. Manchester Pottery, Burslem, Staffordshire District, England. It measures 5 3/4" High.

It is hand painted in the gaudy style scouting a beautiful applied eagle handle. The tea pot is stamped on the bottom: Harvest Ware Wade England. This particular cartouche is George Wade & Sons and was made Circa 1936. The body is of a very bright rich glossy copper luster resist.

COMMENT: Having the “Eagle” handle on this teapot would probably indicate that it was made for export to the United States and would have been a special run for this shape.

HISTORY OF THE WADE FACTORY

This factory’s history goes way back to 1810, when John Wade started it with some family members and friends in Burslem. This factory always produced fairly respectable wares, a lot of which were earthenware, more so than bone china or porcelain. The factory had various subsidiary factories that finally amalgamated as one, under the guidance of Colonel Sir George Albert Wade, who formulated the Wade Pottery Group in the mid 1950’s. George was born July 19th. 1891 in Burslem and died Jan 27th. 1986. In 1953, this keen pottery whiz and his ingenious brilliance finally put this pottery company forefront with his famous “Whimsies” production. These whimsies were small solid ceramic collectable animals and nursery rhyme characters. Soon in the UK, U.S.A. and Canada, the Wade name was recognized in every household. The company ever since has been known as the “Home of the Whimsie”.

This tea pot is of great quality earthenware, great hand painting and great color copper luster resist with a very unusual eagle handle. Certainly worthy of a unique teapot collection! Today this company is held in high esteem by many collectors and prices are escalating. If you want unique, this is it!

CONDITION: Excellent! There are no stains, no chips, no cracks, no rubbing or wear of the copper resist, no wear of hand painting and no restorations.
