PRICE: $60.00

This Adorable Pair of Hand Painted Figural, Man & Woman, Toothpick Holders is stamped on the bottom “MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN”. The American Export Act required that the Japanese stamp this on any exported items from 1945-1952. The porcelain holders are in colors of blue, pink, red, green, yellow and burgundy. The blue holder section is hexagonal shaped. They measure 2 1/4" High.

COMMENT: These little holders are definitely novel and unique and are not the traditional little pieces produced for this period.

CONDITION: Overall condition is excellent except for a very “tiny” hairline crack near the top of the blue holder section on the girl. Therefore we are offering you this little novelty pair of porcelain toothpick holders in "as is" condition. Sorry there is no available photo at his time of the small hairline crack. A photo will be uploaded at a later time or upon request.

OCCUPIED JAPAN PERIOD IN HISTORY?

The American Export Act required that the Japanese stamp MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN on any exported items from 1945-1952.

At the end of WW II, Japan was occupied by the Allied Powers that was led by the United States. This was the first time since the unification of Japan that the island nation had been occupied by a foreign power. The San Francisco Peace Treaty, signed on Sept. 8, 1951 marked the end of the Allied occupation. It went into effect April 28, 1952. Japan was once again an independent state.

Japan surrendered to the Allies on Aug. 15, 1945 when Emperor Hirohito accepted the terms of the Potsdam Declaration. The following day, Hirohito announced Japan's surrender. It was V-J Day, the end of WW II and the beginning of a long road to recovery for a shattered Japan.
