Roden Bros., Amethyst & Marcasite, Antique Sterling Earrings, C. 1900-10

This Exquisite Pair of Edwardian Semi Precious Amethyst & Marcasite Sterling Silver Earrings is stamped STERLING with two rampant lions and an “R” between, which is the mark of Roden Bros. Silversmith Company, Ontario. Each earring has a round cut and bezel set amethyst stone which is surrounded by a series of marcasites that are encased in an elaborate sterling open seven point star design. The earrings were manufactured approximately 1900-1910.

COMMENT: For subdued classy elegance, these earrings are appropriate for any sophisticated event. The debonair lady who wears these earrings will deport an air of Edwardian times and the elegance of grandeur associated.

HISTORY OF RODEN BROS. GLASS CUTTERS, JEWELLERS & SILVERSMITHS

The renowned Roden Brothers Silversmith Company originally opened shop in Montreal, Canada 1879 where it flourished in its creativity of silver design in sterling objects and jewelry. In addition they became expert glass cutters in Canadian Brilliant Period Cut Glass. Their success prevailed and eventually they moved shops to London and Toronto, Ontario in 1900. Their notoriety became prevalent in Ontario and they soon became rival competitors with Birks of Ontario for manufacturing silverware, jewelry and cut glass. They competed with such Cut Glass Companies as Gundy-Clapperton, Gowans-Kent and Birks. They now had become a household name with prestigious esteem amongst the affluent of Ontario.
