This Semi Porcelain Transferware Flow Blue Platter Was Manufactured By Alfred Meakin, Staffordshire, England Approximately 1900-1910. This Late Art Nouveau- Edwardian pattern is named “Countess”.

The Platter measures 14” Long by 11 1/2" Wide. The blue has a tinge of gray and is not Dark Inky Cobalt. However it does have a “halo” effect on the back which qualifies it as flow blue.

COMMENT: Grace and Elegance Bestows The Dining Table That Scouts Such Late Art Nouveau-Edwardian Platters.

CONDITION: Overall condition is very good except for a small frontal chip or flake at the edge which is illustrated in the accompanying photo. Such minor damage may be professionally restored. This minor damage was taken into consideration while establishing a price for this collectible platter. Therefore this platter is being offered to you in "as is" condition.

The cartouche (backstamp) did not photo well at this time. A better photo will be uploaded at a later date. 

HISTORY OF ALFRED MEAKIN In 1845 Alfred Meakin commenced manufacturing at the Newtown Works, Longton, Staffordshire, England. Two of his sons, James & George founded J & G Meakin, Hanley. In 1875 Alfred commenced manufacturing at Tunstall. The Meakin family then amalgamated the three factories known as the Victoria, Highgate and the Royal.

1875 - Victoria Pottery, Royal Albert Pottery, Highgate Pottery, Tunstall
1930 - Newfield Pottery, Tunstall
1949 - Furlong Mills, Tunstall
1957-1980 - Victoria and Highgate Works, Tunstall
1980 -Alexander Works, Cobridge, originally built by Myott in 1902

1989: acquired by Melton Modes, Nottingham to become Myott-Meakin, Staffordshire Ltd.;
1991: management bought out Melton Modes;
June 1991: acquired by Churchill Group.
