ALFRED MEAKIN ROYAL VICTORIA SEMI PORCELAIN 10 PIECE MIX OF ART DECO IMARI VINTAGE CHINA, CIRCA 1933

This 10 Piece Mix of Imari Art Deco Semi Porcelain China was manufactured in England by Alfred Meakin China Company and dates approximately 1935. Similar cartouche marks were used by this factory circa 1915-1935. Each piece is stamped “Royal Victoria” & “Royal Semi Porcelain-Patent App. For”. The nappies are stamped “Rd. 1933”. This cobalt blue is referred to as “Blue Royal” or “Bleu de Roi” (“King’s Blue”).

This mixture of bright polychrome imari color semi-porcelain china consists of 2 Breakfast/Luncheon Plates which measure 9 1/4" Diameter; 2 Tea Plates which measure 6 3/4” Diameter and 6 Nappies which measure 6” Diameter.

The shape is square (octagonal). The colors are vibrant hues of green, orange and yellow upon a rich cobalt band border with four cobalt panels at each corner. The motif of decoration is that of floral and garlands.

COMMENT: Zesty vibrant colors as are exhibited by these pieces of Art Deco China can easily add a splash of vitality to any breakfast table.

CONDITION: Excellent!  All the gold gilding is in tact as well as all the hand painting overglaze.

BRIEF HISTORY OF ALFRED MEAKIN In 1845 Alfred Meakin commenced manufacturing at the Newtown Works, Longton, Staffordshire, England. Two of his sons, James & George founded J & G Meakin, Hanley. In 1875 Alfred commenced manufacturing at Tunstall. The Meakin family then amalgamated the three factories known as the Victoria, Highgate and the Royal.

Ltd. 1976-1991: Myott-Meakin.1989: acquired by Melton Modes, Nottingham to become Myott-Meakin, Staffordshire Ltd.; 1991: management bought out Melton Modes; June 1991: acquired by Churchill Group.
