HISTORY OF PRINCE PHILIP
Just a brief history! Philip was born June10, 1921 as Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich; and as Prince of Greece and Denmark in Isle of Corfu, Greece. He was the son of Prince Andrew of Greece. He later adopted the name of Mountbatten from his mother’s side of the family when he became a naturalized British subject and renounced his Royal title in 1947. His mother was Princess Alice of Battenburg, the eldest child of Prince Louis of Battenburg and sister of Earl Mountbatten of Burma.
Having traveled and being educated world wide, he made a name for himself in Great Britain as an officer in the Royal Navy during World War II. After the War, on July 1947, he and the future Queen Elizabeth II publicly announced their engagement, and were married four months later on Nov. 20th. 1947, at Westminster Abbey, England. He was then created Duke of Edinburgh as his official title by the queen’s decree.
As lovers of history, we could read and write for hours on many subjects, especially royalty of the various countries world wide.
It is always pleasant to brief ones buyer about the history of the object, whether it be about the manufacturer or the historical significance of the object. I am sure we all agree!
