This is a very ornate Secession/Art Nouveau Meissen Style Cobalt Blue Porcelain Cake Plate made in Austria approximately1890-1900. It measures 10 1/2" Diameter and is unmarked. It has perforated handles with lavish encrusted gold border and deep cobalt blue ground color displaying pink, red, white and yellow roses as its central theme.
COMMENT: This plate has an air of elegance and looks great for any occasion or simply for display in ones china cabinet! It makes a great gift to say Thank You or simply as a gift for A House Warming Party.
Items being unmarked was a commonality at the time for many factories in many countries, especially if it was made for the home market rather than for the export market. As time proceeded, the export laws changed and soon thereafter, many factories came under more stringent export laws and began to mark their wares more clearly with factory and country of origin.
CONDITION: The plate is in very good condition except for some rubbing of the gold gilding within the band of cobalt and gold sprig decoration. This is a normal ocurance with antique porcelains that have this kind of high relief points and embossing. After all, it has been used on many occasions over the years and probably not always with the greatest care that it so deserved. Therefore this cake plate is being offered to you in "as is" condition.
