This Vibrant Flow Blue Breakfast or Luncheon Plate was produced by John & George Alcock at Stoke-on-Trent Potteries, Cobridge, Staffordshire, England. The pattern is "Scinde" and dates approximately 1840-1845.
This plate is a deep intense Flow Blue that was transferred on an “ironstone” medium. “Scinde” is the most highly priced & prized of all the Staffordshire flow blues ever produced. It is extremely collectible and always attains the highest possible auction prices amongst the connoisseur collectors and dealers. John & George Alcock’s various Flow Blue Ironstone Patterns are regarded with high esteem and are renowned for their quality.

CONDITION: As illustrated in the photos, there is a 2 o’clock frontal chip on the plate. There are no cracks or stains. Such damage can be restored professionally should one so desire. BRIEF HISTORY OF JOHN & GEORGE ALCOCK:
John & George Alcock began their partnership at Stoke-on-Trent Potteries, Cobridge, Staffordshire, England 1839 and continued until 1846. Their “Ironstone” Ware was always acclaimed for its quality of transfer print, originality of subject and quality of ironstone composition.
Their glazes were always very high sheen which accentuated the various transfer patterns. Amongst their competitors, they surely stood out. They produced many beautiful forms in pottery that today are in private collections and museums throughout the world. As for their flow blue china, their shapes, richness and intensity acclaimed them as one of the preeminent producers in the realm of flow blue ironstone transferware.
