This Very Elegant Orange Bowl can be either of American or Canadian Manufacture. The pattern is identified under several names. This pattern was first made in 1899 and ran up to 1909. It Measures 11 3/4" Length by 7 1/4" Depth or Height. It is elegantly gold gilded and carries the grace of late Victorian Art Nouveau in terms of its ruffled edges and is a nice example of Art Nouveau glass.

HISTORY OF "DELAWARE" PATTERN

United States Glass Company, Pittsburgh, PA., introduced it in 1899 and continued its production until 1909 and called it “Delaware” (pattern line No. 15,065) AKA:”American Beauty”, “Four Petal Flower”. Dominion Glass Company of Montreal, Québec, Canada introduced it in 1902 and called it No. 206 “New Century”. The design mainly consists of long, slender leaves with four-petal flowers against a finely stippled background. There are no reproductions in this pattern”. [Cit. taken from “Early AMERICAN PATTERN GLASS 1850-1910, Bill Jenks & Jerry Luna Wallace-Homestead Book Company, Radnor, Pennsylvania, copyright 1990, Page 170 with photo illustration].

COMMENT: As Canadians, we may want to claim it as Canadian; as Americans, we may want to claim it as American. Whatever! Regardless of origin, it is an absolutely gorgeous ruffled bowl that can grace the best of pressed glass collections. It is a gracious bowl that is referred to as an “orange bowl”; for that matter it can look simply gorgeous with an assorted fruit arrangement on the breakfast table. It sure would make the fruit appetizing!

These Older Pieces of Art Nouveau Glass Have Such A Sweet Sensation! They appeal to the senses of sight and touch so well and go beyond to the point of taste in terms of imaging what kinds of food one may serve in them. They are just so appetizing!

This bowl can make a very elegant gift for any occasion! On the other hand, it would fit well into a good pressed glass collection.

CONDITION: It is in great condition except very minimum wear of the gold gilding which is very acceptable and normal for these kinds of applied gold gilded pieces. Most dealers would classify it as excellent or mint. The wear is so minor that it is hardly noticeable. There is no roughness to the edges and no chips or cracks and no discoloration.
