This Gorgeous Polychrome Transferware Platter was made by W.R. Midwinter located at the Albion and Hadderidge Potteries, Burslem, England. The factory began as late as 1910. This platter dates approximately 1920-1930. It measures 16” Length by 12 1/2" Width. The pattern name is “Landscape”.
COMMENT: This platter has a beautiful romantic transfer print showing two lovers on a stroll with sheep in the background with a gazebo behind them and an arched bridge to their left. It has deep vibrant colors of red, black, yellow, blue and green with details of black. The central theme is framed by a very busy border of scrolling and intertwining multicolored flowers. The jet black and glassy glaze really makes the whole scene pop.
Such great quality transferware certainly could be the envy of some of the early potters of transfer print. Even though this is of a more recent vintage, the quality is superior!
Beautiful Platter! Just a magnificent decorator piece for that formal mahogany sideboard!
Makes a great classy gift either as a house warming gift or for any other occasion your heart so desires! This is definitely a winner!
CONDITION: Excellent except for some natural “crazing”. Not a big deal! On the other hand, it may have been caused by exposure to excessive heat while someone was reheating meats in his or her oven. Other than this, there are no other defects. There are no glaze bubbles, no fork or knife scratches and no staining!
WHAT IS CRAZING?
Crazing or Crackling is not actual damage, it is sometimes caused by slight over-heating in the kiln when firing, after the transfer print has been applied and the glass glaze has been applied.
