This Absolutely “Over The Top” American Brilliant Period Cut Glass Center Vase Is Breath-taking! It measures 12” Diameter across the center and stands 7 1/2" High and dates approximately circa 1900. The pattern has large sunburst designs containing 20 point hobstars within, around the sides, followed by some strawberry diamond cutting as well as fans. Judging from the clarity of blank, quality and execution of pattern and cutting, this piece could possibly be from the Hawkes or Libbey factories. However, it may be also possibly attributed to some of the other great factories as well. As we know, when unsigned, sometimes it is rather difficult to attribute a specific factory to a specific piece unless an illustration is found. As connoisseur dealers and collectors, we also know better than to overlook a great piece because it is not signed. Some of the earlier and best pieces are not signed.
COMMENT: The Sheer Brilliance Of This Magnificent Vase Is Just Amazing And Surely Could Be A "Crowning Jewel" In Any Brilliant Period Cut Glass Collection! Such large center vases with this elaborate and exquisite cutting are considerably scarce and are in great demand by connoisseur collectors and are considered “Premier” or “Choice” pieces. The bottom has a 40 point hobstar. As connoisseur dealers and collectors, we know that the more points to a hobstar, the better the piece. These are definitely a significant amount of points. The geometric cutting is precision perfect; and each point meets perfectly at each apex. The clarity of blank is fantastic!
Such A Crowning Jewel will certainly turn heads as they walk into the room and glance toward your collection; or just picture a floral arrangement on the sideboard or center of the dining room table with an overhanging chandelier! Absolutely breath-taking!
Illustrations of such shape are seen throughout Bill and Louise Boggess’s books on American Brilliant Cut Glass
