LS.S CARLSBAD AUSTRIAN ANTIQUE PORTRAIT PLATE SIGNED CONSTANCE

This Portrait Plate is partially transfer printed with accents of hand painting. It carries the artist signature “Constance” at the 7 o’clock position.

The plate is executed in the style of Wagner and depicts an Austrian Princess with long auburn hair against a pastel background. The lady subject is accentuated by a gold gilded border.

COMMENT: Portrait Plates have always adorned the curio cabinets of the opulently wealthy for centuries.

Carlsbad was a famous porcelain manufacturer in the Bohemian part of Austria which dates back to 1794. Most beautiful pieces were made at the beginning of the 20th century. Marx & Gutherz is the most famous mark.

This exquisite china has adorned private estates along with the prominent, heads of state, diplomatic residences, even royalty for nearly two centuries.

CONDITION: Sad to mention, this plate has a crack in the border which measures approximately 1 1/2” length (which is illustrated in the photo) and there are a few minor surface scratches to the lady as is illustrated. Condition and collectability were factors taken into consideration while establishing a price. Therefore this item is being offered in "as is" condition.
