ITEM NUMBER: PFTP001100
PRICE: $125.00

This Gorgeous Hand Painted Cake Plate was manufactured by the famous Hammersley & Co. China Factory, Alsager Pottery, Longton, Staffordshire, England. This Cake Plate measures 9” Diameter, however if we measure handle to handle, the plate measures 10 1/2".

It has a lavish apple green border with hand applied 24 Kt. honey gold gilded petite flowers. Such a lavish border most definitely accentuates the beautiful hand painted floral center.

The artist signature, F. Howard, is located to the right bottom corner of the plate. The mark on this plate began 1939. Two renowned china artists for this company were Jones and F. Howard. Jones was famous for hand painted fruits whereas Howard was famous for flowers.

COMMENT: Fabulous Quality! Fabulous Hand Painting! Fabulous Collector/Decorator Bone China!

CONDITION: There is a “spider crack” due to possible impact with a faucet. It shows on the back (as is illustrated in one of the photos of the back, if you wish to see more clearly, download and darken the photo); however it does not show terribly on the front but is visible. As a decorator piece, this is a fabulous piece with a renowned reputation for its quality of bone china and for its hand painting. Please note that while pricing, condition and collectability were taken into consideration. It is being offered at a substantially lower price than if it was in excellent condition. A cake plate like this in mint condition by the same artist goes for $350.00 upwards.

HAMMERSLEY CHINA COMPANY HISTORY

This pottery was begun in 1870 by Titus Hammersley and Edward Asbury began under the name of Hammersley and Asbury and continued as such until Titus died in 1875. The former had also a partnership in the firm of Harvey Adams and Co., china manufacturers of Longton, which operated from 1870-1885, but on his death his eldest son, George, took over the direction of the business, and acquired the Harvey Adams concern, changing the name and combining both under the title they use today. From thence onward the history of the firm is of Hammersley succeeding Hammersley until we come to the present Directors, Eric and Leslie Hammersley who are upholding the prestige of the Alsager Pottery, continuing to carry on the tradition of fine workmanship which has been the firm's ambition for the last hundred years – a tradition which has earned the business a wide reputation both in the home and overseas markets.
