PRICE: $50.00

This Elegant Edwardian, Garland Design, Bone China Cup & Saucer was manufactured by the illustrious and world renowned Minton Factory, Staffordshire, England; it was distributed through the famous Birks Jewelry Stores of London, England (the cartouche mark makes this evident). The interiors of the cup & saucer are delicately hand painted with petite pink and red cabbage roses in a garland design. The date mark is 1891-1902.

COMMENT: The exquisite hand painting on this cup & saucer attests to the quality of the artists employed by the Minton factory at the time. Those of us who know Minton realize that Minton began in the china business as early as 1793 with extremely high standards and continued the same caliber into the Twenty-first Century.

In 1820, Minton started production on bone china; this early Minton is regarded as comparable to French Sevres, and was often referred to as the "New Sevres” by many competitors and writers on the subject of china at the time. Minton was the only factory to employ a Sevres process called pate-sur-pate (a form of slip ware instead of enamel before glazing). The Minton Factory was one of the largest, if not the largest, suppliers in the Nineteenth Century of fine dinnerware made to order for embassies and heads of state; as we also know, Mintons were illustrious for their majolica production. Consequently the world did see their great work at the many famous World Exhibitions that followed. Their reputation is impeccable and world renowned for over two centuries and continues to be such the case today.

CONDITION: This Charming Minton Cup & Saucer is in very fine condition considering its age and the fact that it was lovingly used on many occasions over the years for its purpose which is for tea.

  • Consequently it has suffered some minor interior staining and a few minor or small hairline cracks to the cup.
  • The beauty of this cup & saucer should outweigh the minor imperfections which time has bestowed upon this beauty.
  • It is still a little treasure deserving of respect and understanding for having survived the ravages of time.
  • It is still a little jewel that can compliment a good quality cup & saucer collection. Of course condition and quality were taken into consideration while pricing!
  • Therefore we are offering you this fine bone china cup and saucer in "as is" condition at a fraction of the cost of a mint condition one of the same.
