This Charming Porcelain Stirrup/Toddy Mug although unmarked is possibly of English Staffordshire manufacture and dates approximately 1880-1900. It measures 2 1/2" Height by 2 1/2" Diameter. The mug is transfer print decorated and partially hand painted. It depicts a hunter with a gun standing behind a tree as he stalks his pray… two prancing deer.

HISTORY OF THE STIRRUP CUP/TODDY MUG
The history of the stirrup cup or toddy mug has a long tradition dating Pre Victorian in the sport of hunting and was given to the rider after the hunt. Toddy was a drink of brandy, whiskey, etc. mixed with hot water, sugar, and usually spices.
