SKATING ON THE RIDEAU VINTAGE PEWTER PENDANT

This Vintage Pewter Pendant is depicting a 'Skating scene on the Rideau Canal' in the City of Ottawa, which is the capitol of Canada. The scene depicts the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa in the background and the canal in the front. The artisan work is exquisite! The Skating scene is framed with a garland leaf and bow design. It measures 2 1/2" Diameter. It is more than likely of Canadian manufacture locally and does not carry any identifying marks.

Skating On The Rideau Canal in Ottawa was a renowned sport during the later part of the Victorian period in Canadian history, specifically in the 1880s period. This leisurely activity was so popular in Canada that Marshall's Printing Company of Scotland published a series of postcards depicting Canadian winter sports, entitled Marshall's Sporting Series. Inspiration for this pewter piece was possibly taken from one of the postcards.

COMMENT: This Is A Lovely Little Piece Of Canadian History And Is Worthy Of A Canadianna Collection Of Artisan Made Pewter Pieces. It is definitely a novel piece of pewter jewelry. For pewter lovers, this can make an interesting gift.
