This Pair of Antique Chinese Candlesticks is executed on a solid brass base metal and was manufactured during the Kunang Hsu Period in China, which dates 1875-1908.
Each candlestick is stamped MADE IN CHINA on the bottom and is assembled in three sections. These candlesticks are meticulously hand crafted and chased with botanical designs.
Each candlestick elegantly stands on a base with six round medallions which are chased with a flower motif that is native to China. The stem of the candlestick has lovely spindle work that is separated at the center with a round medallion which is again chased with a flower motif on each side.
COMMENT:
CONDITION: This pair of antique candlesticks is in great condition except for one candlestick which leans slightly to one side. Such is a commonality with antique brass candlesticks of any origin. This minor problem adds to the charm and antiquity which purist collectors accept and understand.
GENERAL CONDITION OF ANTIQUE METALS:
Some denting of antique metals generally attest to the authenticity of the antiquity of metals and is considered acceptable by collector and dealer standards. This is not to say that all metals that have dents are antique. Other than denting, there are other things to look for such as how it is assembled or joined or welded. Look for quality impressed maker's marks or other factory marks such as year dates and numbers which accompany some antique metals. Most antique hollow-ware metal pieces, such as jardinieres or planters, large bowls, tea kettles, etc will almost always have bottom interior oxidation. Objects such as antique candlesticks will almost always have a slight leaning to one side and almost always have darkening on the interior of where the candle is placed due to heat and wax buildup over the years. Oxidization both on the interior and exterior of a piece is also acceptable and is considered as "patina" by purists.
