Sugar Casters were originally an English Georgian and Victorian concept that silversmiths made for the gentry as an added feature for the dessert or dining table. Of course this gave the dining table an air of elegance and pompousness when serving desserts to finish off the art of fine dining at the end of the day. Sugar Casters were favored when serving berries which were a luxury during Victorian Times. Berry bowl and nappy sets were a commonality at the Victorian dessert table and so were the accompanying sugar caster. As a part of dining ethic, the sugar caster was a must if serving desserts that required added sugar.
